Have you ever heard of a capsule wardrobe? I hadn’t either, until Samantha Sutton of
took me under her wing and helped me become the fashion girlie I am today. Your capsule wardrobe is made up of your staple pieces - the items you reach for over and over again and can style in a myriad of ways. Think, your favorite white t-shirt, the pair of jeans that fit just right, the tank top you buy in every color, or the pair of earrings you feel naked without.I am still finalizing my capsule wardrobe and it’s likely that you are, too. I think capsule wardrobes evolve. We find new items we love and grow tired of others. Our styles change. Mine certainly has over the years.
I’m also not a minimalist when it comes to my wardrobe. I have a lot of clothes, so I’m always trying to wear everything I own at least once in the items season. Like everyone else, though, I have my favorites, pieces I gravitate towards more than others. So in 2024, I’m going to try my best to downsize. The first step is to narrow down what I wear on the regular vs what I wear for special occasions vs what I say I’m going to wear, but never do. I’ll start with what I wear on the regular. Hence, this roundup.
Remember that time last year when I shared my nighttime skincare routine? I love sharing my everyday staples with you all; the products I have tried and loved, I want you to try and love, too! This is why this newsletter post comes a day after my Best of Beauty for 2023 list. I’m summarizing my 2023 in products. Yesterday was beauty, today is fashion, and tomorrow is books. (Stay tuned!)
But honestly, this list is helpful for me, too. It motivated me to take inventory of what’s in my wardrobe, what I wore the most in 2023, and which items in my closet I didn’t even touch (or just plain forgot about).
The result? This list. I lived in these pieces in 2023 and can vouch for their quality. I’d love to know about the staple pieces in your wardrobe, and if any of these items were something you’ve been looking to add to your collection!

Off The Shoulder Brami
$45, klassyshop.com
I first learned about bramis back in 2021 and even wrote a review of the Klassy Network’s built-in bra tops for InStyle. This is my favorite style, but there are many on the site that I also love. The brand has a bunch of staple pieces for sale, all of which come pre-padded, putting comfort, support, and style at the forefront of each top. They’ve since expanded their offerings to dresses and pajamas, too! I would recommend any and all of them.
Matte Faux Leather Skinny Pants
$139, goodamerican.com
I never got on the faux leather legging bandwagon, but I did hop on the faux leather skinny pant train. This pair from Good American gets a lot of wear. I love how comfortable they feel around my waist, and how they hug my stems. Though be warned, the shine factor is real.
The Original Straight Jean in Light Denim
$108, justblackdenim.com
I have been a skinny-jean baby, exclusively, since high school. But then Just Black Denim generously gifted me this straight-leg style, and my horizons have expanded. A bit. I wear these babies with boots, sneakers, chunky sweaters, and T-shirts. I’ve found a piece of my capsule wardrobe I never knew was missing!
The Track Pant in Cloud
$105, shop437.com
I was on a mad hunt to find a pair of sweatpants that were baggy, but cute, would be warm, but not feel like I was wearing a sauna, and 437 answered my prayers. From the second I received my pair, they’ve been on rotation every weekend. They’re perfect for lounging, and I feel comfortable running errands in them, too - grabbing coffee, a bagel, a prescription, etc.
PINKMSTYLE Basic Double Lined V Neck Tank Tops
$23.98, amazon.com
Those closest to me know that I am picky about my tank tops. I’m still searching for my perfect cami (Express was the closest I came and they discontinued the style), but I’d say the PINKMSTYLE double-lined v-neck is a solid tank. I bought them in a few colors and have worn them year-round. They’re comfortable and smoothing and I just love how they look on with or without something over top.
Suit Yourself Ribbed Mock Neck Sleeveless Bodysuit
$84, spanx.com
Bodysuits need to do two things for me: Smooth out my tummy and be comfortable (aka don’t give me a wedgie). Ergo, dear Spanx, you’ve checked my boxes and I am going to need this bodysuit in many more colors. Please and thank you.
Almost Friday Tee
$52, cutsclothing.com
I don’t wear a lot of t-shirts. I’m more of a tank and cami girl. But Cuts has excellent tees, and I often wear this white one. It falls nicely, isn’t too cropped, and looks great with jeans, my faux leather skinny pants, my favorite black skort, etc.
TODA Double Hoop Earrings
$75, analuisa.com
Earlier this year, Ana Luisa sent me these beautiful earrings and a few other pieces. This was close to when I lost my uncle, and I dropped the ball on a dedicated review due to the timing.
I wanted to make sure I gave the TODA Double Hoop Earrings the shout-out they deserve, as these huggies have become an everyday staple in my jewelry collection. If I’m wearing gold rings and a gold necklace, it’s also likely that I am wearing these earrings. Their cubic zirconia accents are what sets them apart from a pair of plain gold huggies, and I’ve received many compliments on them.
Poppy Necklace
$52, uncommonjames.com
Uncommon James is, hands down, my favorite jewelry brand. I’m constantly adding pieces from their collections to my wish list, and the Poppy Necklace was my first. I wear my silver version constantly (I’m wearing it as I type this), so my husband surprised me with its gold counterpart for my 31st birthday. Needless to say, it got a lot of wear in 2023 and I expect no different heading into 2024.
Black Onyx Oval Ring
$58, uncommonjames.com
Another Uncommon James favorite is my Black Onyx Oval Ring. I’d been looking for this style of ring for years after coming across something similar on Pinterest. I found it witchy and sultry. I was thrilled when the brand introduced this accessory, and you’ll often find it on my pointer finger.
Michael Kors Lauryn Women's Watch
$250, amazon.com
I was never into watches until I watched Suits and was drawn to Meghan Markle’s character’s collection of timepieces. The Lauryn watch is my first fancy watch, and putting it on makes me feel like a real boss of an adult.
Sam Edelman Poppy Sneaker
$100, samedelman.com
It is not lost on me that two items on this list go by the name “Poppy.” Clearly, I am attracted to this moniker. Anyway, yes, these are my white sneakers, and I wear them multiple times a week. Somehow, they’re still relatively clean - and I’ve had them for years. When mine wear completely out, if these are still available, I’ll purchase a second pair.
I love the earrings!
I lovee the sam edelman sneakers!! I have white leather keds that are similar!
You are inspiring me to t try a body suit! Also I need to work on my capsule wardrobe too!!
