To all of my makeup lovers trying their darndest to keep up with the beauty trends floating around social media - you and me both.
When it comes to pop culture, I’m almost always behind.
This is why I do not write for any entertainment beats. I just started keeping up with the Kardashians thanks to their moving to Hulu. I watched shows like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and Dawson’s Creek 10+ years past my adolescence. If it weren’t for my author series on this newsletter, I wouldn’t be picking up new book releases. My to-be-read pile is all backlist titles.
But, to be completely honest, it doesn’t bother me.
I do things on my own time when it’s the right time for me. When things spark my interest, I’ll take interest.
Which is why it took me a month or two after latte and espresso makeup was trending on TikTok to give it a try myself.
Here’s the thing: I am a beauty girlie. I know I’ve gone to the fashion side of editorial, and am definitely a fashion girlie in my own right. However, I began as a beauty girlie and always will be a beauty girlie. I’ve kept my toes in the space, I’m in the know about product launches. I’m still in touch with dozens of brands and love, love, love geeking out over new innovations with you guys, my family, and, of course, the brands and PR people repping them.
I’m just not actively trying the TikTok aesthetics because, well… I’m not actively watching TikTok. I’ve tried to distance myself from social media as much as possible/appropriate for my job. Do I have a TikTok? Yes. Do I use it? Limitedly. I deleted Facebook three years ago. I deleted Twitter (or “X” as it is now called) two years ago. I go through phases where, for months, Instagram is not on my phone and I’ll only check it if I’m on the computer.
I am, however, active on Pinterest.
So when my home feed was taken over by espresso makeup and latte eye looks, I was intrigued. Then I was interested. Then I did the damn thing. I gathered some inspo, grabbed some products from my collection, and created my own glam coffee makeup look.
HOWEVER. I’m new to this whole “beauty blogger” thing. I don’t know exactly what you guys are looking for in terms of beauty content. Do you want me to write out a step-by-step tutorial? For now, I just noted what products I used and where on my face I used them. Let me know what you think of this format. If you dig it, I’ll keep it up. If not, I’ll go back to the drawing board. For now, this is what we’ve got:

I’ve linked everything I used above. Also, disclaimer, these photos were taken on the same day! I just changed my shirt. I wanted to see how the look, well, looked against different outfits.
A picture that wasn’t taken on the same day is this one:
I dyed my hair! Actually, my mother-in-law dyed my hair! She’s a fabulous stylist and has been cutting/dying my hair for as long as I’ve been with her son (almost 10 years… 10 years on October 23rd… time flies so fast I cannot even handle this).
This took place last Friday, and because the weekend was rainy and crummy, I spent the entire two days indoors, cleaning my apartment and decorating for autumn. I’ll be putting the finishing touches on our bedroom on Thursday and swapping my wardrobe (!!! THE TIME HAS COME!!!) on Friday. I’ll have posts on all of that next week. Reminder: Fall content is my favorite content. Exciting things to come.
What is your favorite part of fall? Let me know in the comments below.
