Simple Retro's Vintage-Inspired Clothing Is Pinterest Worthy
I've been pinning the brand's pieces to my fashion board for years.
I joined Pinterest in college. That was over 10 years ago, back when you needed to be invited to join the platform.
One of the first boards I created I labeled “Fashion & Beauty.”
It has over 4,000 pins now.
I go through phases where either I forget Pinterest exists, or I log on daily.
I haven’t taken advantage of the site’s shopping feature, though. This is mostly because a lot of the pieces I pin are from random boutiques with few to no customer reviews. I generally don’t search for specific brands, either. I like the photos that give me Tumblr feels; aesthetic shots over product images.
That’s how I came across Simple Retro.
Simple Retro is a woman-owned clothing label founded in 2015 by a group of girlfriends who shared a passion for vintage fashion. Their designs gave me light academia vibes. They gave me the same classic feels that Jane Austen novels do. I pinned their clothes over and over again.
Flash forward eight years later, I received a press release from the company representing this brand of my Pinterest closet dreams. Naturally, I gushed over the opportunity to connect and shared my love for its clothes. When I expressed interest in sharing their brand with Beyond My Byline readers, they were thrilled, and I couldn’t be more excited to showcase some of my favorite pieces and how I’d style them with pieces I already own, below.
*But note: New styles from Simple Retro drop every Wednesday, and to minimize the brand’s carbon footprint, inventory is limited. This is great for the environment, but it means you have to act fast if you find something you love. Unfortunately, a few of the pieces I highlight here are already sold out, but I list some additional favorites later on, so be sure to check those out as well!
The Madeleine Puff Sleeve Dress
$59, simpleretro.com
I love this dress so much.
If you know me well, you know Jane Austen is my favorite author. For whatever reason, Simple Retro gives me Jane Austen vibes, and its Madeleine dress is no exception.
The green is gorgeous, and I love the white floral pattern. The dress itself is long on my 5’2” frame and hits about ankle length. It’s super comfortable and has delicate romantic details, like puff sleeves and lace around the collar. I could see someone wearing this to a farmer’s market or picnic or backyard summer party.
The Alia Floral Print Puff Sleeve Blouse
$39, simpleretro.com
I didn’t even have to try this top on to know I’d love it. Between the purple-navy backsplash, floral design, puff sleeves, and pleated cuffs, I could tell this one was going to be a winner.
I was, however, surprised that the top does show a bit of stomach between its button clasps. It’s not too much that I’m uncomfortable wearing it, but it is something to be aware of.
Yara Romanic Tulip Print Skirt
This must be my skirt and dress era, because I’m loving a lot of these items lately. Unfortunately, this skirt is no longer available on the site, but it was probably my favorite piece that the brand sent along. (Can we tell I love a floral print?!)
I love how easy this skirt is to style. I dressed it up with a v-neck white bodysuit, heeled sandals, and gold jewelry, but I could just as easily dress it down with a cropped white t-shirt and sneakers. It’s also a maxi, so with the right top pairing (think a black or green turtleneck or burgundy sweater), it could definitely work for early fall.
