Stitch Fix Travel Style Advisors Curated A Box For Me - Is The New Personal Styling Service Worth Trying?
I unboxed and tried on the pieces. Here is my honest review.
I love subscription boxes, and there are so many on the market these days. From beauty products to wine and spirits, whatever you’re interested in, there’s likely a monthly mailer you can sign up for.
This is especially true for fashion lovers.
I’ve had the opportunity to try a handful of subscriptions throughout my career: Birchbox (beauty), IPSY (beauty), Boxycharm (makeup), Dermstore (beauty), Rocksbox (jewelry), Petite Avenue (short girl-specific clothing), and Fab Fit Fun (lifestyle), to name a few. So when Stitch Fix reached out regarding their partnership with Tripadvisor to help jet setters pack more efficiently for their travel destinations this summer, I hopped at the chance to try out the subscription’s new service.
And, of course, relay my thoughts to you.
According to the personal styling service’s data, 92% of Stitch Fix users plan to travel this summer; 84% of clients claim they tend to overpack; 47% get overwhelmed when packing; and 61% admitted they’d love a personal stylist to curate their quintessential vacation wardrobe for them.
Well, ask and you shall receive, I suppose!
To make packing a less painful experience for its customers, Stitch Fix put together a team of Travel Style Advisors (affectionately referred to as the Stitch Fix TSA) to curate Stitch Fix boxes specifically for their destination.
Here’s how it works: Travelers can head over to the Stitch Fix x Tripadvisor Experience Hub and take the Summer Travel Style Quiz, where they will be asked questions about their destination, personal style, preferred vacation activity, and more.
Based on their results, the Stitch Fix TSA offers personalized packing recommendations that fall under one of the five most popular travel style trends they’re seeing for 2023: Sophisticated City Slicker, Countryside Comfort, Beachcomber, Mediterranean Holiday, and the Moonrise Kingdom.
My results were Countryside Comfort (shocker, I know).
Ahead, I’ll share what was in my box, my thoughts on the pieces that were selected for me given my quiz results and style profile on Stitch Fix, and whether or not I would recommend the service.
**DISCLAIMER: These are my first impressions. I got my box, grabbed my camera, and tried on each of the pieces then and there. Also note, this post is not sponsored, nor am I being paid to write about the products mentioned. The products listed ahead were generously gifted to me in PR.**
MARKET & SPRUCE Sleeveless Seersucker Maxi Dress ($78)
Rating 1-10: 10+++!
Return or Keep? 1000% Keep!
If I had to dream up my perfect summer dress, this is it. As you can see from the photos, I was instantly obsessed. I love the maxi length, stretchy waist, v-neckline, spaghetti straps, and the small slit that shows some leg. But the best part has to be that this dress has pockets! Way to start this unboxing off with a bang, Stitch Fix TSA!
CLUB MONACO Boiled Cashmere Collared Cardigan ($261.78)
Rating 1-10: 9
Return or Keep? Keep
OK, let me just preface this by saying, my Travel Style Advisor, Mary, is not privy to my love for Club Monaco. I pass by the store’s window in the mall and practically drool over the displays. When I found this beauty sitting pretty in my box, I nearly fell over.
Needless to say, stylistically, this was another winner for me. This cardigan is so cozy, and I loved how it paired with this dress. I could definitely picture myself in the countryside at sunset, bundling into this sweater on a chilly evening.
I did rate it an eight out of 10 because of its price point. That said, the cardigan is made from 100% cashmere and retails for $349 on the Club Monaco website, so you do score a discount through Stitch Fix. It’s an investment, but I have no doubt this cardigan will last me years to come.
RAILS Charli Linen Button-Down Top ($178)
Rating 1-10: 7
Return or Keep? Keep
Surprisingly, it was not love at first sight with this floral button-down. Partially because it’s made out of linen, a material I tend to stay away from because it wrinkles easily. Partially because I just wasn’t sure it aligned with my style.
However, once I put it on, I dug it. It’s see-through, so you need a tank top or bralette underneath, but I could style this a myriad of ways - with a denim skirt (pictured here), dress shorts (also pictured here), regular jean shorts, jeans, a colorful tank top underneath, etc.
41 HAWTHORN Becca Extra High Rise Pleated Short ($68)
Rating 1-10: 5
Return or Keep? Return
By definition, these shorts are absolutely Countryside Comfort. They fit the aesthetic to a T. In theory, I like the idea of having a pair of pleated shorts in my rotation. However, this pair, specifically, doesn’t fit my aesthetic. They are very high-waisted on my 5’2” frame, and I loathe high-waisted bottoms. I don’t find them comfortable. I did think they photographed well, though.
BTB LA Gia Tote ($180)
Rating 1-10: 6
Return or Keep? Return
This is a cute bag, but the interior capacity is very small. It’s more fashionable than functional, and if I’m toting around a larger bag, I’d prefer it to be equally stylish and roomy. I don’t see myself using it, so I’ll likely return it.
Would I recommend Stitch Fix’s TSA feature?
Overall, I liked the pieces that were chosen for me. Three out of five ain’t bad! I would recommend this feature. It was fun to take the style quiz and see what the service came up with based on my results. That said, if you have a specific budget, be specific about your spending limitations in your Stitch Fix profile, so you don’t end up falling in love with something you really can’t (or don’t want to) afford.
I’m glad you mentioned stating your budget, I almost croaked at the price of the sweater! I did love the dress!
